Huawei Cloud Launches Cairo Region with Arabic LLM: A New Era for AI in Africa
The recent launch of Huawei Cloud’s Cairo Region marks a significant milestone in the company’s expansion into Africa. This new region, which brings the total number of Huawei Cloud regions to 33 worldwide, promises to support 28 countries in Africa. But what’s more exciting is the introduction of Huawei’s new Arabic large language model (LLM), which boasts an impressive 96% accuracy rate.

The Arabic LLM, a first of its kind in the industry, is a game-changer for the region. With the ability to understand local culture, history, and customs, this model is poised to revolutionize the way businesses operate in Africa. No longer will companies have to rely on English-based models, which often struggle to grasp the nuances of the Arabic language.
“With the Cairo Region, we are bringing our most innovative technologies to the country to further support Egypt to unlock the potential of digital transformation,” said Huawei Cloud president of global marketing and sales services Jacqueline Shi.
Huawei Cloud’s Pangu model has been trained on native Arabic data, ensuring an accurate understanding of the local culture, history, knowledge, customs, and more of the Arab world. This is a significant departure from relying on English-based models and translating them to Arabic.
The company has also partnered with Orange Egypt to launch Huawei Cloud services in the Egyptian market. This strategic partnership will provide a range of cloud computing services, including infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), and software as a service (SaaS).
Huawei Cloud has been steadily expanding its global footprint, opening new data centers in Turkey and Saudi Arabia last year. The company’s deepening ties with Egypt are a testament to its commitment to supporting digital transformation in the region.
In addition to its investment in the Cairo Region, Huawei has pledged to invest $300 million to establish the first public cloud region in Egypt, offering more than 200 cloud services, including AI platforms, data platforms, and development platforms. The company will also invest $200 million to support 200 local software partners and eventually build a prosperous local software and application ecosystem.
Huawei Egypt has also signed an MoU with Egypt’s National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) to boost cyber security practices and digital cooperation. This partnership aims to foster cyber defenses, safeguard sensitive data, and ensure a secure digital ecosystem.
As Huawei Cloud continues to expand its presence in Africa, one thing is clear: the company is committed to supporting the region’s digital transformation. With its innovative technologies and strategic partnerships, Huawei Cloud is poised to unlock the potential of Africa’s digital economy.
AI is transforming the African continent
In conclusion, Huawei Cloud’s launch of the Cairo Region with an Arabic LLM marks a significant milestone in the company’s expansion into Africa. As the region continues to grow and develop, one thing is clear: Huawei Cloud is committed to supporting Africa’s digital transformation.
