Under the terms of the partnership, Databricks will integrate Mistral’s Mistral 7B and Mixtral 8x7B models into its platform, allowing customers to interact with the models via the Mosaic AI Playground tool. This integration will enable customers to customize the models based on their internal datasets and use them as optimized model endpoints through Mosaic AI Model Serving.
“With these out-of-the-box integrations, today’s enterprises can rapidly leverage Mistral AI’s models for their generative AI applications, without compromising on security, data privacy, and governance that are core to the Databricks platform.” - Databricks
The partnership announcement comes as no surprise, given the growing popularity of Mistral AI’s models. Since the beginning of 2024, over 1,000 enterprises have used Mistral models on Databricks, making this partnership a natural next step in further bolstering customer offerings.

Mistral AI’s Rise to Prominence
Mistral AI has experienced a rapid rise to prominence, securing $113 million in seed funding in June 2023, followed by another $415 million as part of its Series A funding round, in which Databricks participated. The company has since secured commercial ties with industry heavyweights, including Google Cloud and Microsoft.

Mistral AI’s approach to AI development, focusing on an open, responsible, and decentralized approach, resonates with hyperscalers from a technical and perception standpoint. As a primarily European-based company, Mistral represents an ideal regional partner for US hyperscalers, all of which are contending with heightened scrutiny from EU regulators.
The partnership between Databricks and Mistral AI marks a significant step forward in the democratization of AI, enabling enterprises to leverage the power of AI without compromising on security, data privacy, and governance.
